good tools

you don’t need anything fancy to start cooking together, but some simple tools can help to make it safer and easier:

crinkle cutter

crinkle cutters make chopping and eating fruit and vegetables even more fun, creating interesting shapes and textures.

knife set

this knife set from opinel is great for younger chefs as it is ergonomically designed and comes with finger guards.

box grater

this box grater has a big handle and non-slip base making it safer and easier for children to take charge of the grating.

y-shape peeler

y-shape peelers are much easier for children to use than the single-blade, straight peelers. this one has a chunky handle which is good for gripping.

non-slip mixing bowl

we like these stainless steel bowls with an extra grippy non-slip base. you could also put a damp tea towel under a regular mixing bowl to stop it slipping (this trick works for chopping boards too).

digital scales

digital scales are great for children because they’re so easy to read.

cup measures

it can be fun to use cup measures sometimes too, and they’re good for learning about volumes and quantities (e.g. how many 1/4 cups make up 1 cup).

lunchboxes and bottles

here’s a selection of our favourite stainless steel lunchboxes and water bottles from Mintie. Use our code ‘munch10’ for 10% off your order.

Mintie Snug Stainless Steel Lunchbox

we love Mintie’s snug stainless steel lunchbox which is leakproof and comes with a snack pot and a cotton lunch bag. they’re super child-friendly and easy to open / close.

Midi Snack Pot (2 pack)

The perfect size for snacks on the go, these midi pots are easy for kids to use and have leakproof silicone lids.

stainless steel water bottle

this 500ml stainless steel water bottle from Mintie is the perfect size for school bags. made from food-grade stainless steel and bamboo, these bottles are durable, eco-friendly and BPA free.
